Where in the World did our World Go?

Image
So here we are half the way through another Black History month, and yet another unsatisfactory impeachment trial in the rear view. I have some thoughts on that for another post, so stay tuned. In the meantime, this is something that I leave you, the gentle reader, to ponder. At the core of this missive, is a more moral question; do you think live in a country blighted by racism or is it all media generated noise? lease be sure to share your comments...I look forward to reading them. Before I dive in, a brief disclaimer; the info I am sharing with you is taken directly from a popular gay social media site. It has in no way been altered, or modified, other than to fit the confines of the illustration used to direct attention to what is the heart of this issue. To define “who is who” within the conversation, my responses are in orange, the messages of the other individual involved are in white: just as they appeared in the original message stream. With that said......

How is a "Social Butterfly" Survives the COVID-19 Isolation? Reconnecting!

Image
Diabolical COVID-19!! We are living in interesting times to say the least. We are seemingly “under siege” by a virus that seems to take no consideration for race, creed, socio-economic position, or any of the other factors with which we consider with others regularly. It feels strange that the best line of defense against this is isolation. For me, isolation can be a challenging thing. Even though I am an only child who enjoys my time alone, this feels different because it’s a strongly recommended practice. For those who know me, I think one of the adjectives you might hear most is that I am a social being. Not quite to the extent I have been in the past, but I draw energy from those around me. With little to no new energy in my space, I feel a bit stagnant. But I am finding ways to cope…one of which and I am surprised to even hear myself say this, is the social media outlets. I know, I have said in the past that so much of this behemoth in our world wasn’t always a great thi...

Don't Fear the Reaper...or Should You

Image
Do you feel the disconnect? Do you ever feel a disconnect between yourself and the rest of the world? I mean like, you feel like the rest of the populous is privy to the punchline of the funniest joke ever, but not only have you been unable to discern it for yourself, no one is offering any assistance to help either. Now don’t misunderstand, this is not a gnashing of teeth, railing at God, “why me” kind of thing. For me it’s a bit more complex. Gonna try to explain in this missive, so please stick with e if you can. I guess to make sense, I must start at the beginning. This past week I was rocked by the death of not one, not two, but three individuals that had at one time or another been a more regular part of my life. I have had to concluded that at this stage of the game, I should be more prepared for death. Yet a part of me feels as if I should rail against it, rather than add it to greeting card rotation for birthdays and holidays. But how do you attempt to accept som...

What will my legacy be? Let's just get through today first, shall we?

Image
So, as I posted on my Facebook page a feew days ago, I made a quick overnight trip to Phoenix for a job interview. After a whirlwind day of meetings, meetings and more meetings, I made the trek back home to find an email thanking me for my time, but they had decided to move forward with a different candidate. Yes, as you can imagine; profoundly bummed. This could be the reason why I can’t seem to fall asleep. I made a vow a while back that I was no longer going to use Facebook forum as my “armchair therapist,” but I just need to share a few thoughts and this blog post seemed a more appropriate place to "let loose." First, this turning 50 thing has begun to catch up with me a bit I think. Not in the traditional sense of feeling in decline or on a spiral to oblivion (yes, someone wrote that to me after my birthday), or even a more understandable midlife crisis. My struggle is coming from perceptions of others. As many of you know, I have been working incredibly hard to im...

Hello, yeah it's been a while. Oh not much, how about you?

Greetings all! If you recognize the song the title of this blog is from, drop me a private note, and I will send you something fun in a reply. Now...read on! Well, after another long hiatus, I am back in the blogosphere. I first want to say thank you to all of you who have been inquiring when this day would happen; it is appreciated. It has been a challenge getting back to this point, and the expression of concern and support has not only been overwhelming, but incredibly helpful as well. If you chose to read on, it will become a bit clearer why… When I started this blog back in November, I did so with the highest expectations…in myself. I have always tried to be “that guy;” the one you can rely on above all others. But over the last few months, “that guy” has been replace with “this guy;” unsure, unsteady, and not at all on his game. I have had brief periods like this in my life before, but not one that has lasted as long as this. It all seemed to have started just after th...

Im baaacckk...the redux!

Greeting! Well I can only assume that many of you have forgotten about my quest for a more “fab” me at 50, but for those of you who haven’t…I’m back baby! I appreciate the expressions of concern for my lack of posting, but this new year has not been without its challenges. But as I type this, I can assure you that things are on the up for this guy, which I will elaborate a bit more later in this post. For now, I want to address some of the concerns expressed by folks after my lack of posting. Within the first weeks of this new year, I lost 3 very dear people in my life; two of them to suicide. Now, this is not going to be a tirade about suicide, or how losses make us stronger, or anything like that. It is just a statement of fact, and the facts are this; these three individuals are no longer on this plane with us. I am not going to share details on all of these individuals, and their importance in my life. That part is personal, just for me to know and cherish. Am I sad? T...

I'm back...and no, not from outer space!

First, thanks to those of you who inquired about me and my blog…it means a lot. When I started this journey, I was sincere…and I still am. Still, the best paid plans…sometimes life gets in the way. So know that I appreciate your concern. With that said… Ever have one of those days when you just feel like something is weighing you down? That sometimes, no matter how hard you try, you just have to turn it over to a higher power? Well, that’s been my state lately. Doing my best to shake it, and I believe I am winning. Check out this video...this song has definitely helped too! Still, as I said before, life can really get in the way sometimes. November is a tough month. Aside from the definitive change of the seasons, there has been a great deal of loss in November’s past. Palpable losses that even though time moves on, you sometimes feel that you can’t. Add to that my insane decision to start this journey at the beginning of one of the most food-fueled times of the year! As I s...
